THERE are few better places to have a drink than at the Chalke Valley History Festival, and who better to share a pint with than one of the stalwarts of the festival, Paul Bavill?
Excellent chat. Early on Paul mentioned enactment as opposed to "living" the subject. Don't stay in character too long. I was with the family back in '06 or '07 at Inverary Jail. There, they have various characters in place, Governor's wife, Gaoler and an inmate. D32, HMS Daring, was performing sea trials on Loch Fyne. Looking out was the character dressed as an inmate. " My, you must be awfy feart aw such a deadly looking ship?", said I, trying to impress my kids with my engagement.
"Ahm oan my lunch", was the deadpan reply. The chap smiled and then gave Max and Ruby a personal tour of the jail. A super place to visit.
I’ve always been impressed with the work of the reenactment groups. Being a medieval (as well as modern) history fan, I have always enjoyed their events and have been impressed by their attention to detail. I always think it’s a shame when the Battle of Bosworth ends in Richard’s death though.
Good chat Guy. Interesting. Eyes opened to reenactment. Also happy to hear someone killing HP printers in the background. 👍🏽

Ah, yes. Paul will be overseeing the many deaths of Kyle Glover this week.
