For as long as I can remember, sherry is always about to make a comeback. But it never does, except in this household, where it's consumed regularly. Is anyone else a fellow sherryaste?
It's an amazing drink. So many different flavours from very light aperitif to very dark full flavour heavier wines. I miss it a lot. Unfortunately my doctor has forbidden me from drinking alcohol!
Worth a try from Waitrose. Chilled, of course. The story of how Palo Cortado was discovered / created is worth a look too (esp. the more romantic version where it was originally thought to be a fault)
Depends on personal taste, but I say "beware the diabetes". There is, however, nothing that says "Christmas pud" more than Pedro! And you can always use the excuse that "it's only once a year".
Haven't had a sherry for half a century so found a new bottle of Marsala (bought for a recipe) which will be substitute. Having a glass each before lunch here with some Hula Hoops. It is rather good! Might get used to this...
Turns out we have some. A cream sherry recommended with desserts. I have no idea how it got there as neither of us drink it!! Will take the plunge later...
Absolutely. Fantastic little Tapas bar in Fowey and they have a Sherry list to die for! Also like a nice Bristol cream on Xmas morning. Just to be cheesy amd hold up the family tradition!

I'm sorry to hear that Tom!
My wife is a Gaditana, so there’s always a bottle of Manzanilla in the fridge. With a Palo Cortado and a PX for when the mood takes us.
You sound like a proper aficionado!
If that equates to drinking a lot, then I plead guilty. It helps that we visit AndalucÃa a lot and have done a lot of Bodega visits!
I share your guilt...

Thanks v much for this!
Absolutely love sherry, especially chilled in summer. Always Pedro X at the Festive Season too...Christmas pudding in a bottle!
I need to check it out! Is it brutally sweet??

Absolutely. Nothing better than a chilled fino as an aperitif.
So glad someone else is with me!
Maybe it’s age but I’ve never had Sherry - what’s it like?
Like wine, so many different levels of dryness etc. Do you like dry white wine?
I do but I prefer sweeter
Then a Pedro Ximénez is the one for you!
Funnily enough had a Tio Pepe pre dinner last night
I don't believe you
Partial to a Grand Barquero too - have the full range.
How do I publish a photo here?
Hmmm... Let me ask the head of Writer Engagement!

Embrace the sherry years!
Never tried it, but I’m very partial to an entire bottle of red wine with my lunch, when appropriate…
This is noted Joseph...!
I’ve never actually tried it!! I probably should at some point.
Join the dark side Alison...

It may be too sweet... You may need to buy some dry sherry...

I definitely must visit next time in Cornwall!
Ha! You’ll probably find me there hanging off the end of an albondigas!
Oh yes! Love a pre-lunch Sherry on a Sunday. Preferably chilled and not too sweet for me. And a Sherry glass is a thing of beauty.
Yes, this is v chilled and dry. Do you have a fave?
Must admit to my ‘wine merchant’ being Waitrose normally so I do quite like the Torre del Oro Palo Cortado.
